Whereas, The cost of being a student in Alaska has increased significantly since 2001;
Whereas, Student worker wages have not been adjusted in either years;
Whereas, Student worker wages are not competitive with off-campus employers hiring for similar positions;
Whereas, Many students depend on income from their places of employment to pay for their education;
Whereas, The employment of students by the university is beneficial to the student, employee, and the state; and
Whereas, The bottom student wage of $7.50 per hour will soon be below the state minimum; Therefore be it
Resolved, That ASUAF supports an increase of $1.00 per hour for all student wages in the UA system. Be it further
Resolved, That a copy of this legislation be forwarded to President Mark Hamilton, University of Alaska President; Chancellor Brian Rogers, University of Alaska Fairbanks Chancellor; Don Foley, Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Life University of Alaska Fairbanks; The Board of Regents, and the Business Council.
