Whereas, tuition for the coming years is going to be set at the September Board of Regents meeting;
Whereas, an increase in student job wages will also be set at this meeting;
Whereas, UAF has more student workers than any other University of Alaska campus and will be most directly impacted by an increase in student wages;
Whereas, both of these issues have a large impact on students, and may affect their ability to afford school;
Whereas, ASUAF exists to lobby for the students' well-being, and the Board of Regents represents the ultimate authority in the University of Alaska system;
Whereas, we cannot lobby for the students' if we do not attend Regent meetings;
Whereas, this meeting generally takes place in Anchorage, a relatively accessible venue;
Whereas, at the last Board of Regents meeting, the date and location were unexpectedly changed to September 24th and 25th in Juneau, adding significantly to cost of sending students;
Whereas, the Summer Senate Committee has already allocated $200 toward sending student representation to Juneau;
Whereas, some of the money that was allocated for the last Board of Regents meeting went into the rollover account; and
Whereas, the Senate will nominate students to send to Juneau; Therefore, be it
Enacted, that the ASUAF Senate allocate enough money from rollover to send Nicole Carvajal, Patrick Sanders, Joshua Luther and Russel Boone to Juneau for the September Board of Regents meeting.
