Whereas, Textbooks are a major financial burden to the students;
Whereas, Buying used textbooks reduces the expense;
Whereas, A student can save up to as much as 25% or more on buying a used textbook;
Whereas, When the faculty uses new editions of books, students are forced to buy their books new;
Whereas, UAF Faculty have the option to readopt their textbooks even if a new edition is published;
Whereas, If faculty were to readopt the same text book for a minimum of just one more semester after the first semester of use there would be a substantial increase in the number of used books from the book provider efollet.com;
Whereas, If the Faculty were to readopt the same textbook, students would get more money back from the bookstore when selling them back if it is known that the books were going to be reused the next semester;
Whereas, With the rising tuition from the University and the economy as it is a student could use all the money they can save; and
Whereas, If textbooks were to be readopted, students then could more effectively use the resources that are provided by the student government as in textbook swaps and online textbook sales; now, therefore be it
Enacted, That the University Relations be charged with working together on an advertising campaign to encourage students to talk to their professors about textbook readoption.
