Whereas, upon gearing up for the Juneau Campaign, many student advocates are told to prepare themselves to defend the University of Alaska’s budget request in the context of the needs for K-12 education; and
Whereas, Many high schools around the state are faced with difficult labels criticizing their Annual Yearly Progress, graduation rates and test scores; while the University of Alaska is working to keep more Alaska high school graduates within the state; and
Whereas, The University system and the K-12 system in this state should never be forced to trivialize education by competing for funds; now, therefore be it
Resolved, That the Associated Students of the University of Alaska Fairbanks join, and request the Coalition of Student Leaders to join, the lobbying efforts of the Alaska State parent Teacher Association and NEA-Alaska to provide a unified front on the importance of education within the State of Alaska.
